Craig is a single storey stone built cottage with a large garden. It lies close to the track with parking available for several cars. The cottage has two bedrooms (a twin and a double) as well as a well equipped kitchen, living room and bathroom. There is a large loft room which makes a great base for kids on wet days, with a plentiful supply of books, games and craft materials.
As Craig is off-grid there is no mains electricity, and water is piped in from a nearby burn. Heat is provided by a multi-fuel stove in the lounge, which also heats the hot water and radiators in the bedrooms. Wood and kindling are included in the cost of your holiday, but you are also encouraged to gather more wood to help replenish supplies if you wish.
There is a generator available for use if you should wish, which can provide you with light in the evenings, and a pump to help warm the heat to the radiators throughout the cottage. The house, however, is also equipped so that you do not need to use the generator if you don’t want to, with fridge and cooker powered by gas, the stove that heats the hot water and radiators, and plenty of LED lighting.
Craig’s kitchen is well equipped with a gas cooker and large gas fridge, plus ample crockery and cutlery and cooking equipment. There is plenty of space for preparing meals. The kitchen has been newly decorated and tiled for 2019.
The central room of the house is the sitting room, which has a multi-fuel stove, comfortable sofa seating plus a dining table. With windows to the front and back of the cottage, this is a great place to spot the pine martens from. They frequently feed from the window sill at the front, right next to your dining table.
The double bedroom is a large, twin aspect room at the northern end of the property, which looks out over the garden and the loch. With a new mattress for Spring 2019, and warm bedding, it makes a comfortable retreat at the end of the day.
The twin bedroom has two single beds, and enjoys views out across the loch. There are bookcases here with a wide range of books for children of all ages. The beds have warm duvets, plus extra blankets if required.
The books here are a wide range of old classics and modern young adult fiction, as well as books with practical and fun ideas to try out during your stay at Craig.
The bathroom has a full size bath, plus basin and WC.
The loft is accessible via a wooden ladder, and provides a perfect wet weather den for children. With a table and chairs for doing crafts and playing games at, plus a large selection of craft materials, it is a great place for adults as well.
The garden has been semi-tamed, but still has a wild feel to it. There are plenty of places for children to make dens, and the firepit is sheltered, but still has fabulous views. There is ample space to park your car off the track. The garden is dog friendly but is not currently securely fenced.
Craig is only accessible via a forestry track or by water, and there is more information on our location page about this.
